Denmark - Vestas V112-3.0 MW wind turbine reaches 3 GW milestone

Designed to lower Cost of Energy and offer unprecedented reliability for our customers, the V112-3.0 MW turbine has turned out to be exactly what an increasingly competitive market has been looking for Photo Heading: Vestas - V112-3.0 MW wind turbin

Reaching 3 GW of orders after less than two years in the market demonstrates strong customer commitment to Vestas and the V112-3.0 MW turbine, says Juan Araluce, Chief Sales Officer of Vestas Wind Systems A/S.

The size of orders spans from one single turbine to the largest order so far of 140 turbines for the Australian Macarthur project.

Vestas’ acclaimed V112-3.0 MW turbine consolidates its position as one of the most popular machines in the Vestas line-up. Launched in the latter part of 2010, the V112-3.0 MW already reached the 1 GW milestone of firm and unconditional orders in October 2011. Now, less than a year later, the V112-3.0 MW turbine rounds the 3 GW mark due to strong demand from more than 30 customers around the globe.

Not only customers but also financiers has embraced Vestas’ newest turbine:

“It is with great interest that we have followed the launch of the V112-3.0 MW. Due to its design for low and mid wind speeds we see great potential for this technology. Looking at the investments, the V112-3.0 MW promises high Business Case Certainty,” says Simone Löfgen, Head of Business Development at Commerzbank.

The V112-3.0 MW-turbine is the latest product of Vestas’ more than 30 years of knowledge, based upon proven technology and rigorous testing. With its large swept area of its 55 metre long blades, the V112-3.0 MW increases the efficiency of the turbine, capturing maximum energy from the wind. In fact, the V112-3.0 MW is optimised for all three wind classes, covering IEC I, II and III wind speeds as well as offshore.

Having won industry prizes for Vestas such as the renowned Zayed Future Energy Prize as well as the Asian Power Award for “Most innovative power technology”, the V112-3-0 MW turbine embodies Vestas’ relentless commitment to ensure our customers the lowest possible Cost of Energy while at the same time offering the highest Business Case Certainty.

Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ more than 47,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by approximately 55 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.

Today, Vestas has delivered wind energy in more than 70 countries, providing jobs for over 20,000 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world. With 65 per cent more megawatts installed than our closest competitor and more than 51 GW of cumulative installed capacity worldwide, Vestas is the world leader in wind energy.
